A friend of my husband and I, shared with me this morning on how he struggles to “get going” at home with his exercise routine, since he can’t visit the gym no more. He’s now working from home, like many are due to the Covid-19 epidemic, which have lead him to only exercising at home. He’s an avid exerciser with a body fat level of 20%, trying to get it as low as 15%. He told me this morning how he has invested in exercise bands which you fasten in your door entrance by closing the door. He uses it to do upper body work but he’s struggling to “start” with his exercise program at home, in the mornings. In the past when he had to work at the office, he would come in earlier to exercise before work at the local gym where his office was situated. Now this routine of his, just isn’t there anymore and the motivation to exercise at home as well.
We all have been stripped from the privilege of exercising in a gym environment and if you have had a personal trainer who have waited for you to honor your appointment with them, then it was easy to get to go to the gym. But now being at home or without a gym, might eat into your motivation in just being able to get started with it, at home. Here is some tips on how to make sure, you exercise at home.
Tips to ensure that you stick with your exercise program at home
- Join an online exercise class which are presented by someone via Zoom for example, in real time. This will motivate you to stick to the time allotted for the session, keeping you accountable. Or get an exercise buddy. Someone who wants to exercise with you via an online platform, just the two of you. You two will keep each other accountable.
- If you know that you have to exercise in the morning before you’re starting with your work day, put out your exercise apparel the night before. This motivates some people when they see the exercise apparel laying on their chair, calling them to exercise.
- If your country is allowing time outside to exercise, then get out there. Now that we all are bound to our houses, go out into the neighborhood during lunch hour. Walk or run, whatever your preference is. The sun is nice and warm. Get that Vitamin D pumping through you veins.
- Get someone to check in with you daily, as to whether you have exercised and don’t lie. Make sure you stick with your schedule so that you can impress that friend of yours and maybe just maybe they might follow your example as well.
- Get a personal trainer who will do online sessions for you. This will keep you motivating as well because you know you have to keep with the allotted time.
The world is upside down at the moment and with our schedules being all over the place, motivation to just get your bum off from the chair in your home office, can be difficult. Just know that you are not alone in this. Others are also struggling with the same thing that you are going through and also motivate yourself with the thought that exercise is good for you. Not just now but when you are 65 years and older.
