Hernias

Hernias

Hernias is a very common thing among people and I have seen numerous people with this medical condition, in my line of work.

Hernias is caused by weak abdominal muscles which results in the fat or intestines to bulge through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Other causes of hernias are age, lifting of heavy objects, pregnancy, injuries and/or scar from a previous operation/surgery. Many hernias aren’t life threatening or cause any pain immediately. They even take years to develop or show any signs (a).

Hernias can be very painful condition and make certain exercise activities uncomfortable. Therefor it’s important to prevent hernias by building a strong foundation by strengthening those abdominal muscles but if you have been diagnosed with a hernia, it is still possible to exercise around a hernia. There’s still exercises you can do around the hernia, which aren’t painful nor uncomfortable. Some of them are working around the effected area and targeting the obliques for example. Or the fact that you can’t perform crunches nor sit ups, is a problem as well. But we can work around this problem with alternative exercises which won’t hurt.

If you are interested in an exercise program with regards to preventing a hernia or want to exercise but don’t know how to work around the hernia, you can email me at askfitness@marleenspersonaltraining.co.za. I will contact you for a Skype consultation and after the free consultation, drop the workout with illustrates in your email inbox at R800 / US $53.

The workout will be a 10 week program which you can do either at the gym, your own home or even when traveling. No equipment needed and all your medical history will also be taken into consideration when the program is set up for you as individual.
